Week 8 Matches

Here we are at week 8: the finals.  Both Pandora's Box and DTKF come into the finals with perfect record, congratulations to both of you.  The winner this week will be named the GotRail Champions and 1st place winners.  Good luck to both teams.  As a bonus treat, Railgods and American Instagibers will be playing this week for 3rd place.  Good luck to everyone!Quake 3 Arena

I also wanted to say thank you to all 20 clans that played in GotRail.  Without the clans this tourney wouldn't have been a success.  I can't wait to see everyone for GotRail? season 2.  We are still taking suggestions for the new bracket structure located in our forum.  The GotRail? 2 vs 2 ictf signups have begun as well.  The information can be found on the forum.

Have fun this week.   Please set up a date/time with your opposing clan ASAP and let a GR? admin know.  We want to get all the matches scheduled as soon as possible.  Clans that schedule their matches early will also have a better chance of getting GTV and SBK Radio coverage.

Bracket Explanation:

I've been getting a lot of questions regarding the bracket structure.  If you don't understand the bracket then continue reading.

The bracket lasts for 8 weeks.  Eliminations don't happen until week 4.  10 of the 20 clans competing in the GR? tournament will be cut in week 4.  It doesn't matter what your prior win/lose record is going in to week 4.  If you lose that week your clan is out.  Make sure you have your BEST players in the week 4 match so you don't get eliminated.

The first week of the tourney was for fun.  Winning or losing didn't mean anything.  It gave newer clans an opportunity to play and work on team skills.  Week 2 split the clans into two brackets.  Winning clans play each other and losing clans face each other.  This process continues until week 4.  Since week 4 starts eliminations, it pairs the best clans against each other.  The strongest clans in the secondary bracket will also face off.  As previously mentioned, the losing clans in week 4 will be out of the tournament.  I'm sure this will cause some controversy because some top clans will be cut.  Clans such as ]RG[, HO, P[], Cloud 9, DTKF etc could be eliminated on week 4.  It all depends if they win or lose that week.  Having the top clans face each other during the first round of eliminations makes if fair for all the other participating teams.  Two clans in the secondary bracket still have a chance to advance and move back up to face the remaining teams in the winners' bracket.  The bracket was designed to be fair to all the clans playing.  It doesn't give the strongest teams' easy victories by playing weaker clans.  The strong clans will be fighting each other throughout the tournament.  It's not bias' against strong teams.  As long as they win they will advance.  The same holds true for the weaker clans.

The Got Rail? tournament was developed so clans could compete in a friendly environment where winning teams could receive prizes.  GR? also helps promote iCTF.  The bracket was designed to be fun to play in yet be fair to all clans participating.  If you still have any questions please post them in the forum.  Remember, have your best players ready for week 4.

Quake 3 Arena

Here is a little info if you would like your match to have GTV.

In order to have your GR? match broadcast by GTV, the server you are playing on must have a PB variable set to allow the GTV client to stay connected (since it's technically a 'bot'). This variable is a 'mask' which means it will match as much as possible from left to right.

From PB Server Guide
PB_SV_Specname - If a special spectator client "bot" is used on the server, this setting should hold the player name corresponding to that client so that the PB Server will know this is not a real player; if the player with this name ever has a non-zero score, the "special" status is lost

From PB for Q3A FAQ
How do I set up my PunkBuster server to allow GTV clients? Set the pb_sv_specname PB Setting to the first few letters of the playername used by GTV clients that will connect. That way, the PB Server will keep the connecting GTV clients in SPEC status as long as there is 0 score for that "player". For example, add 'pb_sv_specname GTV' to the pbsv.cfg or pbsvuser.cfg file in the server's home "pb" folder.

So, if a server has 'pb_sv_specname GTV' set, GTV clients with the names 'GTV-NewDome' and 'GTV-Speakeasy' will both be able to stay on the server. If a 3rd GTV client were connected with the name 'MyGTV' it would be kicked after just a few minutes.

Note: 'GTV Client' in this case refers to the GTV server connected as a client to the Q3A server, not to be confused with spectator clients connected to the GTV server itself.

Thanks to *ZPG*D1zord3r for getting the GTV info.

Week One Matches:

All the matches were picked randomly.  D1zord3r wrote a program that randomly picks teams that are entered into it.  All 20 competing clans were entered into this program.  The program was run and the Week One matches were picked.  All the matches for the Got Rail? tourney will be picked in this same fashion.

It is up the competing teams to select a time/date to have their match.  It is also up to the two teams to find a server to play on.  Ping times should be as even as possible for both teams on any selected server.  The teams also must find at least one admin to supervise.  A match will not count if an admin is not present.

Matches can be played Monday through Friday.  The following week's schedule will be posted on Sunday's.  Please check the web site every Sunday to see what team your clan will be playing during the following week.

All matches MUST be played during the scheduled week.  If the match isn't played or the rules are not followed both teams will receive a loss.   All competing teams contact information is listed under the "Clans" section of the website.  Clan leaders should contact each other  to schedule a time/date for your matches.

Prize structure.

Though we have 6 vendors that have confirmed sponsorship, thus far I have received prizes from only 2 companies.  I am not receiving large quantities of prizes to give a way.  I will give out the prizes in a fair manner.  That being the case, if the first or second place clan has a large roster, I won't have enough prizes to give something to every member.

All prizes that I receive will be given away.  I have no control over the products or quantities that a sponsor sends.  Please be aware that if your clan wins their might not be enough prizes for all of your team members.  All prizes will be sent to the clan leader.  It is up to this person to decide how the prizes are distributed to their clan.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Due to unforeseen circumstances one of the clans in the GotRail? tourney had to drop out.  We currently have one slot available for a clan that is interested in playing.  The spot will be filled on a first come first serve bases.  The first clan that contacts me at mimic@the12threalm.net will get the opening.   There will be a waiting list for clans incase someone drops out of the tourney before the start date.  Contact me if you want to be added to the waiting list.

GUID keys are needed for everyone on the roster to play.  Please contact a admin in #gotrail when your team is ready to collect the keys.  Clans will be asked to join a server with a admin and all clans must be wearing tags.  Once the team is in the server, the admin will enter in a command and take the GUID keys down.  Only the admins of GotRail? will have access to the clans GUID keys.
