Quake 3 Arena :: GotRail? iCTF Tourney 4-27-03

Here is the ladder structure for the Got Rail? Tournament.  The diagram looks confusing but I can assure you that the ladder structure has been carefully thought out.  This ladder is extremely fair to all clans.  A clan could potentially lose 3 times and still win the tournament.  This makes the tourney fair and competitive for new or "average" clans.  This structure will have no effect on top ranked clans.  These clans will work their way through the ladder just like any other structured tournament.

The ladder was made with the assumption that 20 clans will be in the tournament.  If a clan drops out the ladder will be modified.  If a clan drops out leaving an odd number of teams in the tourney the admins have a right to assign a "bye" week to one clan.  The clan with the highest total cap number from previous games would receive the "bye" for a week.  In other words, they would get a week off yet still advance.  This will only be done if a clan drops during the tournament.

Ladder Explanation:

Week 1:
20 clans start the tournament.  All clan names will be randomly picked to determine who plays who.  There will be 10 matches this week.

Week 2:
The winning clans from week 1 will play each other.  The losing clans from week 1 will play each other.  Clan names will be randomly picked to determine who plays who.  Eight clans that lose matches this week will be moved to the secondary ladder.  Two of the losing clans will remain in the main ladder.  The two losing clans that have the highest cap numbers from the first two weeks of play will be allowed to remain in the main ladder for week 3. (Represented by yellow blocks in week 3)

Week 3:
There are 12 clans in the main ladder and 8 in the secondary ladder.  Clan names will be randomly picked to determine who plays who in both ladders.

Week 4:
The winning clans from week 3 will play each other.  The losing clans from week 3 will play each other.  The 6 clans that lose their matches in the main ladder will be eliminated from the tournament.  The four clans that lose their matches in the secondary bracket will be eliminated.

Week 5:
Six clans in the main ladder will have matches and the four remaining clans in the secondary ladder will play.  The two losing clans in the secondary ladder will be eliminated.   The two remaining clans from the secondary bracket will be moved back to the main ladder (represented by grey blocks in week 6).  Clan names will be randomly picked to determine who plays who in both ladders.

Week 6:
The winning clans from week 5 will play each other.  The losers from week 6 will play each other.  The four losing clans will be eliminated.  Clan names will be randomly picked to determine who plays who.

Week 7:
Four clans remain.  Clan names will be randomly picked to determine who plays who.  The two losing clans will be eliminated.  The two winners will advance to the final round to determine the tourney winner.

Week 8:
The two remaining clans will have a final match.  The winner will be named the Got Rail? Tournament Champion!!!

Throughout the tournament clan names will be randomly picked to determine who plays who.  We have decided to do this for two reasons.  First, it adds excitement to the tournament.  A clan won't know who they are facing the following week until the matches are posted.  Second, and more importantly, it adds flexibility to the ladder.  If a clan drops out of the Got Rail? tourney the admin's can make a few modifications to the ladder structure and continue on with the tournament.  This wouldn't be possible if we followed a "standard" ladder structure.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the ladder please post them in the Got Rail? section of the 12th Realm forum.  This is the ladder structure will be using for the tournament. We will not change or modify the ladder because someone doesn't like it.  If someone posts a suggestion to enhance the ladder then a possible modification might be made prior to the start of the tournament.

A special thanks goes out to xii.Mayor_McCheese for developing the ladder structure for the Got Rail? tournament.
